The Friends of Cheltenham and Regional Cemeteries Inc. have just put together a new tour: titled "The Tragic '30s: Decade of Adventure".  An excellent companion tour to our highly popular "The Tragic '20s", the tour focuses on tragic deaths by adventure in the 1930s. Hear about the councillor from Chelsea who died in a car accident, the young skiing adventurer who perished on the Bogong mountains, the mother and her two children who perished in a house fire, the budding air pilot who lost his life in a mysterious plane crash near Essendon airport and the Cerberus crewman killed on the speed racetrack. Elizabeth Hore will be speaking at the Balwyn Historical Society Inc. on Thursday 14 May 2009 at 8.00pm on the Boroondara Kew Cemetery.

The following week, Elizabeth will again be speaking at the East Kew Neighbourhood Watch Group on 18 May at 8:00pm.  The topic is "The Significance of Cemeteries in our Community".

Glen Turnbull will also be speaking on the same topic at the Kilmore Historical Society Inc. on Tuesday 2 June 2009 at 8.00pm.

Then on 20 October 2009 at 8:00pm, Elizabeth Hore will speak at the Surrey Hills Historical Society Inc. on "Historical Significance of Cemeteries".

The Friends of St. Kilda Cemetery Inc. (Vic) have released their schedule of cemetery tours for the first half of 2009.  On 22 March, our own President, Liz Hore will be undertaking the Artists' Tour which visits the graves of Sybil Craig, Hugh Ramsay, Elizabeth Parsons and many other notable artists.  Then in April, our war veterans are honoured with a Military Tour on the 19th, a tour which includes Captain Albert Jacka, the first Australian recipient of the Victoria Cross in World War One.  In May, the Law Week tour features the Trials of Ned Kelly and those associated with the gang of outlaws.  Finally on 21 June, Notable Women and the contributions that they have made to the community and the nation.  Be sure to attend one of these fascinating tours!  More...
